Happy Holi 2020 …

Holi is one of the main Hindu festivals. It is celebrated in the countries of South Asia, especially in India and Nepal. Holi is the festival of colors. The festival is celebrated for one or two days. Holi is celebrated in the spring season. Hindus trust that spring is full of colors, so they throw colored water. Holi is situated on a legend about King Hiranyakaship. `Hiranyakashyap had a son, Prahlad. Prahlad was the biggest devotee of Lord Vishnu. The Hiranyakashyap wanted to kill his son, so he called his sister, Holika. She had a magic robe. This tunic had the power to save the user from burning in fire. Hiranyakashyap ordered his sister to sit in a burning fire along with Prahlad. He thought that his sister would not be damaged by fire due to the magic robe and Prahlad would be burned to death. But the conclusion was the opposite of what the evil demon king planned. Thus, Prahlad came out of the burning fire safely and Holika was burned to death. The other day is celebrated with bright colors to mark the victory of virtue and goodness over evil. The festival is celebrated for five days. The fifth day, Rang Panchami, marks the closing day of the Holi festival. It is a party of colors. People are seen with different varieties of colors in Holi. They put colors on each other, they sing, they dance. They worship Lord Krishna and color their idol. Families get together and celebrate all day. They distribute sweets and enjoy to the fullest. Children wait for this event all year. This is because they can play all day. Therefore, Holi is considered a festival of joy. People look forward to this every year. Happy Holi 2020 …

Krishna Legend

In the Braj region of India, where the Hindu idol Krishna grew, the festival is held until Rang Panchmi in commemoration of Radha’s divine love for Krishna. The festivities officially mark the beginning of spring, with Holi celebrated as a love party. There is also a symbolic myth behind commemorating Krishna. When he was a baby, Krishna developed his characteristic dark skin color because the demon Putana poisoned him with his breast milk. In his youth, Krishna was desperate if Radha, light skinned, would like it because of her dark skin color. Her mother, tired of her despair, asks her to approach Radha and ask her to color her face the color she wanted. This he did, and Radha and Krishna became connected. Since then, the colorful playful face of Radha and Krishna has been commemorated as Holi. Beyond India, these legends help explain the importance of Holi (Phagwah) are common in some Caribbean and South American communities of Indian origin such as Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago. It is also celebrated with great fervor in Mauritius.Happy Holi 2020 …

Legend of Kama and Rati

Among other Hindu traditions such as Shaivism and Shaktism, the legendary meaning of Holi is linked to Shiva in yoga and deep meditation, the goddess Parvati, who wants to bring Shiva back to the world, seeks help from the Hindu god of love called Kamadeva in Vasant Panchami. The god of love shoots arrows at Shiva, the yogi opens his third eye and burns Kama in ashes. This annoys both Kama’s wife, Rati (Kamadevi) and his own wife, Parvati. Rati performs his own meditative asceticism for forty days, about which Shiva understands, forgives for compassion and restores the god of love. This return of the god of love is celebrated on the 40th after the Vasant Panchami anniversary as Holi. The legend of Kama and its meaning for Holi has many variant forms, particularly in southern India.Happy Holi 2020 …

Indian Religions

The festival has also been traditionally observed by non-Hindus, such as Jains and Newar Buddhists (Nepal). In Mughal India, Holi was celebrated with such exuberance that people of all castes could throw color on the Emperor. According to Sharma (2017), “there are several paintings of Mughal emperors celebrating Holi.” [36] Holi’s great celebrations were held at the Lal Qila, where the festival was also known as Eid-e-gulabi or Aab-e-Pashi. Mehfils were carried out throughout the walled city of Delhi with the participation of aristocrats and merchants. Bahadur Shah Zafar himself wrote a song for the festival, while poets such as Amir Khusrau, Ibrahim Raskhan, Nazeer Akbarabadi and Mehjoor Lakhnavi savored it in their writings. The Sikhs have traditionally celebrated the festival, at least during the 19th century, with their historical texts that refer to it as Hello. Guru Gobind Singh, the last human guru of the Sikhs, modified Holi with a three-day martial arts extension festival Hola Mohalla. The extension began the day after the Holi festival in Anandpur Sahib, where Sikh soldiers would train in battle drills, compete in horse riding, athletics, archery and military exercises. Holi was attended by Maharaja Ranjit Singh and his Sikh Empire that extended to what are now parts of northern India and Pakistan. According to a report by the Indian Tribune, Sikh court records indicate that Ranjit Singh and his officials used 300 colored mounds in 1837 in Lahore. Ranjit Singh would celebrate Holi with others in Bilawal Gardens, where decorative tents were installed. In 1837, Sir Henry Fane, commander in chief of the British Indian army, joined the Holi celebrations organized by Ranjit Singh. A mural in Lahore Fort was sponsored by Ranjit Singh and presented the Hindu god Krishna playing Holi with gopis. After the death of Ranjit Singh, his Sikh children and others continued to play Holi every year with colors and luxurious festivities. British colonial officials joined these celebrations.Happy Holi 2020 …

History of Rituals

The Holi festival is an ancient Hindu festival along its cultural rituals. It is mentioned in the Puranas, Dasakumara Charita, and by the poet Kālidāsa during the reign of the fourth century of Chandragupta II. Holi’s celebration is also mentioned in the 7th-century Sanskrit drama, Ratnavali. [50] The Holi festival captured the fascination of European merchants and British colonial personnel in the 17th century. Several old programs of the Oxford English Dictionary mention it, but with different orthographies derived from phonetically: Houly (1687), Hooly (1698), Huli (1789), Hohlee (1809), Hoolee (1825) and Holi in editions published after 1910.Happy Holi 2020 …
